Gibbet

Gibbets were used in England to display the bodies of the criminals to deter others from a life of crime.Gibbets were often placed in locations with a high presence, often on the main roads into towns and villages. Gibbets have also been recorded to be used for pirates where they would be hung upon the breakwaters of ports.

The first official recording of the use was in 1752, with the last installation in 1843.
